(Wallingford) Members of HealthyCT, Connecticut’s non-profit health insurance CO-OP, have elected policyholders from Newtown, North Haven and South Windsor to serve on the company’s Board of Directors. Two are new to the Board; one has previously served. The official results of the health insurance company’s election were certified by an outside vendor and announced today at www.HealthyCT.org. Nearly 30,000 eligible HealthyCT members who were age 18 or older, and active as of September 30, 2015 were invited to participate in this, the company’s second Board election. The company’s member-led model is unique in Connecticut’s health insurance landscape. The member majority on the Board gives HealthyCT policyholders a direct voice in their health plan and its decisions. “HealthyCT continues to be unique among Connecticut’s health insurance companies in the way we are governed and how we give our members a voice,” said CEO Ken Lalime. “Our company has not only survived but grown during a critical period because of strategic planning. If you’re age 18 and older, and an active HealthyCT member as of September 30, 2015, get ready to vote for your new Board of Directors.
Members vying to sit on insurance company board WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, August 3, 2015 – HealthyCT, Connecticut’s non-profit health insurance CO-OP, experienced extremely high interest among its approximately 30,000 members for the company’s second Board of Directors election. On the heels of a successful 2015 enrollment period, 47 policyholders stepped forward to nominate themselves for election to the three open seats on the HealthyCT Board. Last year, for its first Board election, just over a dozen members nominated themselves to serve. At a time when the insurance industry in Connecticut is undergoing massive change through consolidation, HealthyCT is the state’s only Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan, or CO-OP. As such, at least six of the 11 voting members on HealthyCT’s Board are policyholders who have been elected by their fellow HealthyCT members. Following background checks and an interview process, this year’s voting, which will be managed by an outside vendor, will open on Monday, November 23 and close at the HealthyCT Annual Meeting in January. CO-OP members elect fellow policyholders to Board of Directors as Open Enrollment continues Official results of the company’s first Board of Directors election have placed HealthyCT members holding the majority of voting seats of the non-profit health insurance company. The final tally, certified by an outside vendor, was announced today at www.HealthyCT.org. HealthyCT is a non-profit Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP), whose member-led model is shifting Connecticut’s health insurance landscape by offering affordable, accessible and high-quality health care to individuals and businesses of all sizes. Its member involvement in company leadership gives HealthyCT members a direct voice in their health plan and its decisions. The election is believed to be the first of its kind for a Connecticut health plan. Since November, members in good standing have been able to vote online or with paper ballots. More than 10% of the company’s policyholders participated in the historic first-time election, choosing from among individuals, small and large business representatives, non-profit leaders and physicians on the ballot. CO-OP members to assume majority after historic inaugural election; voting continues as Open Enrollment begins WALLINGFORD, CT, November 3, 2014 – Individuals, small and large business representatives, non-profit leaders and physicians comprise the ballot of candidates HealthyCT members will choose from when voting for their new Board of Directors beginning Thursday, November 13. And because HealthyCT is a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan, or CO-OP, its members will occupy the majority of voting seats on the Board of the non-profit health insurance company. The 12 candidates on the ballot hail from across Connecticut. Over the summer, the health insurer began notifying members about the opportunity to serve on and/or vote for the Board. Candidates were able to nominate themselves as long as they were a HealthyCT member in good standing and at least age 18 or older. They also had to pass a background check; have not served on the Board of another insurance carrier since 2009; and not be serving as a representative of any state, federal or local government or quasi-governmental body.
